Like most graphic designers, I started drawing at a very young age and had dreams of becoming a famous artist like Dali or O'Keefe. I found art to be not only an escape but the only authentic way to express my emotions and thoughts. I created quite the following at school, winning many art awards and drawing 'tattoos' on my friends. I knew art was my calling, but instead was encouraged to find a 'real job'.
Toward the end of my high-school career, I started to notice logos, typography, and artwork created for advertising. I decided to become a graphic designer and enrolled in the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Florida. I studied for 2 years and received an Associates of Science degree in Computer Graphics and continued for another 2 years to receive my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.
I landed an incredible internship before graduation at a small marketing and advertising firm in Largo, Florida called ColorAmerica. I honed my skills, learned all that I could, and successfully created brand strategies for clients ranging from small start-ups to national companies. I shared 16 years with the staff of ColorAmerica and became an expert at brand and print design. I collaborated with the team on hundreds of projects, as we successfully generated advertising campaigns and materials such as brochures, catalogs, direct mail, flyers, apparel and so much more that increased our clients' revenue and created relationships based on courtesy and respect that kept our clients coming back.
When my tenure at ColorAmerica had ended, I shifted gears to learn about an area of design outside of my comfort zone — environmental graphic design. So, I spent 2 years at Oakhurst Signs in St. Petersburg, Florida, where my education continued. Here, I worked with the team to create branding and signage for multi-family properties and learned how to design for signage, the value of minimal design, and working with a variety of materials. It was during this time that I started freelancing and fell in love with it. I had been dreaming about a freelance career for some time, so I shifted gears again and jumped out of my comfort zone... again.
It was also during this time that I rediscovered my passion for art and began digital painting. There's such freedom in creating art — it is completely therapeutic and satisfying to me. Nothing makes me happier than knowing my artwork hangs on a clients' wall and makes them smile when they see it. That is what you'll find me doing when I'm not working with my beloved clients, walking my dogs, or being Mom to my 2 kids or spending time with my wonderful husband.
